Giving up activities that we enjoy is stepping a little closer to low mood and is one of the markers of depression. Never a good idea.
But so many of us are very willing to put others before ourselves, feeling that this selflessness is necessary. And the truth is that giving to others can contribute to improved mental well being, but balance is the key.
And no one can help others on a flat battery. So engaging in pleasure giving activities or proper selfishness is absolutely essential.
So have a moment and make a list of what you enjoy doing.
Consider:
- Hobbies and pastimes that you’ve been ignoring
- Friends who raise your spirits
- Family who you have missed
- A night out
- Relaxation
